There is a difference between feeling grateful about something and feeling grateful to someone. Thankfulness is a much more personal experience that occurs when we have benefitted from a specific kindness from another person. To thank originally meant to think of a gift and has come to mean the feeling aroused by these thoughts and their expression in a thankful attitude. When we thank, we think—namely in terms of giver, gift, and receiver. Many circumstances or events can cause you to feel thankfulness but it is most often a response to a benefit received from another person or God. Who has provided you with a benefit today? Your spouse? A neighbour? A Coworker?
As early as you can today, take a few moments to reflect n this:
During what time period today could I reflect and express my special appreciation to at least three persons, who have contributed to the good experiences of my day?
Repeat daily for at least 5 days this week
